Editing Services

I started my writing and editing career in January of 2008. Since the start of my career my passion for the craft has only grown stronger in that time. Not only do I have the drive to perfect my own books but to help other busy authors as well. I have several years of freelance editing experience, have recently attended advanced grammar classes in college, and extensively study the craft of writing. I'm also a USA Today bestselling author.

I succeed when my client succeeds. Editing should be a creative experience and as enjoyable as possible, so my goal is to provide fast, friendly, and efficient service while working with my clients. No author is the same, so I can tailor your editing plan for you.  I use my passion for the craft with my education to give my clients the best editing experience that I can.

The areas of editing I cover are:

Content Editing

  • The flow of the story.
  • Plot strengths, weaknesses, and inconsistencies.
  • Point of view, tone, and voice flow.
  • Character development.
  • Dialogue

What Clients Are Saying...

"I have found the one!  Wendy Ely is a multi-talented editor who proves her worth with each suggestion she offers.  Her skill is only surpassed by her professional approach to the client as well as the manuscript.  I can relax and write, knowing that Wendy has my back."
--Catherine Wolffe

"Prior to my book Deadly Deception, I'd never worked with an editor before.  I admit I was a little hesitant.  I had visions of a mean editor slicing up my work as well as my self-esteem.

Then I found Wendy Ely who made the whole editing thing a learning experience that will benefit me in the years to come.  I liked the way Wendy pointed out areas of my book that could use improvement as well as passages she really liked.

I learned a great deal from Wendy.  I liked working with her so much I've have already lined her up to edit my next bookDeadly Relations."

-- Alexa Grace

"As a newbie writer, emailing my manuscript to a professional editor was intimidating.  I waited, biting my nails, wondering what she thought of my work.  How long it would take to hear back?  Would my voice be gone from my writing after she was through with it?  I’m glad to say I worried for nothing.

Wendy gave me a timeline and stuck to it.  She provided great feedback on my writing and my story.  The best part, she didn’t change what I wrote.  She enhanced it.  Wendy went beyond correcting grammar and spelling.  Her prompts made me look at gaps from the reader’s point of view.  Thanks to her I was able to breathe a little more life into my characters and their surroundings.

Wendy Ely is worth every cent of her modest fee."

"I love Wendy Ely!  She’s easy to work with, fun, and reliable!  Once a MS is submitted, she gets back to you quickly!  You’ll see that she’s not only worked on grammar, but has strengthened your sentences! She’s taken my sentences and made them stronger!  She’s not forceful in her edits, but rather gives suggestions where they are needed!
I highly recommend Wendy as an editor!"
